Long-term visa for studies in Czech republic

Long-term visa for studies in Czech republic

According to Act. no. 326/1999 an application for a long-term visa can be filed at a Czech Embassy of which country the applicant is a citizen or has permanent residence. Applicant should apply the completed form along with:

1. original travel document
2. photo of applicant
3. proof of accomodation document
4. documents on the purpose of stay
5. proof of funds
6. a Consent of parents or any other statutory representative or guardian to the permanent residence of a child in the Czech Republic

The Czech Embassy is only competent for receiving an application for a long-term visa, the competent body for processing it is the Ministry of Interior (hereinafter „MOI“). The Embassy becomes the intermediary of application. During the procedure, the Czech Embassy invites him/her for an interview. Embassy afterward send an assessment of the interview to the MOI.

MOI often does not grant a long-term visa for study, referring to the lack of conviction from the interview. That´s why it is the most difficult part. It is really important to be prepared for it, however, there is no such thing as a guide that will help you with preparation. You have to fully satisfy the requirements of MOI, i.e. provide sufficient information about the university and the study program itself.

Unfortunately, even though your interview went well, from our experience we are assuming that there is often a mistake arising in between the communication among the Embassy and MOI. It may be a very tiny inaccuracy, but in some cases, it can appear as the reason for not granting a long-term visa. We are witnessing these cases when the client is contacting us at the moment he/she has already received the negative decision.

In one of cases, that our attorney successfully appealed, the MOI led, as one of the arguments for not granting a long-stay visa, the applicant’s statement that the university, in which the applicant wanted to study, was the best in Europe although it subsequently turned out that the real claim was different (applicant stated that the university is one of the best in central Europe) and this is just one example of tiny inaccuracy, which eventually played a big role.

If you are considering to apply for a long-term visa for studies in the Czech republic and also if you have applied already and did not succeed for the first time, do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to estimate your chance with the appeal.
