Medical visas to the Czech Republic

Medical visas to the Czech Republic

Medical tourism is very popular in the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic has a lot of health&spa resorts, certified hospitals and clinics with high standard quality of healthcare services. Person who wants to receive those services must foremost obtain a visa for the purpose of arriving to the Czech Republic.

If the treatment (respectively treatment in the cases of lack of the appropriate treatment inside of the country of origin) or therapy of the potential patient does not exceed 90 days he/she might apply for the Schengen (short-stay) visa for the purpose of health & spa tourism, medical treatment, surgical intervention, etc. Such visa holder will be allowed to stay in CR during the healing procedure in the period mentioned above with the possibility of visa extension in certain cases.

To obtain this type of visa the applicant must do, in accordance with the Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 the Visa Code, the following: foremost he/she must fill in the relevant application form with all the necessary requirements stated by law, the annexes to the application are passport and a photo. The applicant has to provide Czech Embassy with his/hers fingerprints when applying for the visa and obtain travel health insurance for the purpose of traveling to the CR. To apply for this visa the application fee must be paid. The amount of the fee is different in each state. The application must be submitted to the relevant Czech Embassy within territory scope to which the applicant belongs.

The significant part of the application are the supporting documents proving the purpose of the journey, accommodation, financial means and intention to leave the territory of the CR after the treatment before the visa expiry. To prove the purpose of his/hers journey the applicant must provide the Embassy with the documents that confirm that the applicant is a customer of the health services in CR. It could be proved e.g. by a voucher from a spa or a medical facility, an agreement of the provision of the healthcare services which is concluded with Czech certified hospitals or clinics, in case of complicated treatments the purpose of the journey can be proven by an official statement from a health care institution confirming the treatment – the confirmation must include the applicant’s personal data, the specification of the expected medical intervention/treatment and the total duration of the medical procedure. Accommodation can be proved by any type of lease contract, hotel voucher, etc. Financial means are usually proved by the bank statement for at least 3 months; the applicant must prove that he/she has at least CZK 1100 for each day of the treatment procedure. To prove his/her intention to leave the Schengen area before the visa expiry, the applicant should provide the application with evidence as air/bus ticket, proof of financial means for return trip, employment confirmation, real estate ownership confirmation, family relationship confirmation, etc.
